The Roots of Golden Hour California
Golden Hour California grew from founder Khobe DeLucca’s lifelong love of early California design, shaped by the Spanish homes she grew up in across Southern California. In her early twenties, she wandered into a small shop in Pasadena and discovered a piece of Monterey furniture that felt instantly familiar, like home — a moment that sparked her devotion to the Monterey, Rancho, and Spanish Revival styles. Not long after, she and her son found a hand‑painted Monterey set at a Salvation Army. These became early cornerstones of her collection, and they still remain a part of her home today.
Long before Golden Hour California existed, Khobe was drawn to the details that define early California design — the hand‑painted florals, the softened edges, the balance of proportion and patina. Her background in the arts as a jewelry designer shaped her eye, but living with these pieces is what created her passion for them and her desire to understand and honor the makers behind them.
Golden Hour California is shaped not only by Khobe’s eye for design, but by the life she shares with her partner, Dan, who brings his restoration expertise to the studio. His craftsmanship ensures that each piece is cared for with respect for its original materials and history, honoring the makers who came before. Together, they approach preservation as an act of love — a way of keeping California’s past alive.
Over the years, her collection expanded to include vintage California pottery, early California tile, lighting, artwork from the 1920s and 1930s, most of all her beloved collection of paintings by Juan Duran Tinoco. She is especially devoted to the history behind each piece — the makers, the artists, and the stories they carried — and she approaches every object with a commitment to research, accuracy, and honoring the people who created them.
Their Podenco Andaluz, Canella, is the soul of their home — the boss, really — a rare Spanish sighthound they brought back from one of their trips to Spain. She’s the love of their lives: wild, driven, full of personality, and always ready to work, play, or snuggle. Her extraordinary presence embodies everything they cherish — loyalty, warmth, a deep connection to nature, and that childlike magic of being fully, unapologetically yourself. Their love for animals and the natural world is woven into the way they work and the environments they create.
